About Me

Who are you and what do you do?

I'm Harvey Hunt and I am a fourth year Computer Science Student at the University of York, UK. I have an interest in Linux, game development and embedded systems. I have been hacking away with Linux and using obscure, minimalist software for a few years now. I've got a habit of writing my own tools (such a howm and i3situation), as I enjoy the challenge of writing new and improved software.

I have been writing both Python, Rust and C for a few years, although I have used other languages too - both through university and my own personal interest. I can be found on freenode and mozilla using the nick hunt.

What hardware do you use?

I use an Asus Zenbook UX32VD when I am out and about. When I'm at home, I use my desktop PC (Intel i7, 8GB RAM etc) hooked up to a Dell U2412M and a Filco Majestouch II Ninja Brown. I also have various devices lying around that are running different services - these are:
  • HP Microserver N54L with 16GB RAM and 2TB storage: This serves as a FreeNAS box that runs Plex and Transmission.
  • Raspberry Pi: This is running dnsmasq in order to provide DHCP, DNS caching and PXE booting using TFTP.
  • Apple Mac Mini (Mid 2007): This serves as a Jenkins build server.
  • MIPS Creator CI20: This is used for helping me to learn the MIPS architecture and try out fun hacks. :-)

 And what software?

I run Arch Linux on my laptop and desktop (although my desktop has Windows too for games). My MIPS Creator CI20 runs Debian, my Mac Mini runs Ubuntu Server and my Raspberry Pi runs Arch.

I use howm as my window manager, vim as my editor and urxvt as my terminal. For IRC, I use weechat with a rather standard configuration file. Playing music is handled using cmus (it's an awesome piece of software that more people should use).

My dotfiles can be found here.
